Wedding Rental

Hosting a great party requires a venue that creates the right atmosphere, and our ballroom is the perfect place! It was specifically designed for parties, and includes all the essential amenities with your rental: a bar, kitchen, sound system, tables, chairs, fancy lighting, parking, and an amazing dance floor. Food and Drinks

Our kitchen on the main floor is intended for your caterer to use for keeping food warm or cooled, or some light baking and cooking. Many contract caterers prefer to use their own facility to prep and cook their food, and bring it to the venue of your choice.

For drinks, the kitchenette on the second floor and kitchen on the main floor have service windows where your guests can order drinks. We leave it up to you to hire bartenders and getting proper liquor licensing and insurance.

Sound and Lighting

Sugar Swing Ballroom comes equipped with a very good sound system, including a mic. There is a +$75 charge for the use of our gear for a band, but is otherwise included in the rental fee. Your deejay or band may bring in their own gear if they wish to supplement or substitute what we offer.

With lighting, it will come preset with stage lighting (flood washes and spotlight) that is ideal for bands, theater lighting, or highlighting your head table. Any colour, (such as your wedding’s), and any lighting intensity! For the rest of the room, the space is completely dim-able. You may configure lighting how you wish, or ask us for some advice too!

Capacity, Access, and Parking

Just off Whyte Ave and 99st, our venue is quite easy to get to. We have a small parking lot next to the building for a dozen cars, and there is usually ample street parking every evening within 1 block of us.

If accessibility is an issue, our main floor is wheelchair accessible. The second floor is just a flight of stairs up, and has washrooms both upstairs and down.

The main floor is 1800 sq ft of hall space, which would work well for party sizes of approx 100 to 150 guests for dinner and a party. The second floor is 1400 sq ft, which could work well for 80 to 120 guests.

Availability, Pricing, and Quotation

The main floor or upstairs (not both) is available on either Friday or Saturday nights [updated] all year long! between May 1 and September 1. For Fridays, for an extra fee, we could consider providing the entire venue. It is, of course, available any day of the week for rent!

We offer competitive rental rates. For a quote, please contact us and let us know what you need, and we will quickly return to you a price. There are a number of variables to consider when quoting, so it is not straight-forward.

We take a security deposit of$600 of the total fee. We then require the entire rental amount, not subtracting the security deposit, sometime between now and 1 week before the wedding. Within two weeks after your event, the security deposit, minus any damages, is returned to you.

Other Users

The upstairs and downstairs are completely separate, and are attached by stairwells. They even have separate entrances! The parking lot is shared by the users of both floors. On Friday and Saturday nights, the Sugar Swing Ballroom also hosts our weekly dance socials. We are a pleasant, well-mannered community of people in our 20s and 30s, if you happen to run into us! In any case, together we must be aware of each others activity, be respectful to each others uses, and work together to solve any issues that may arise. Presently, our Friday evening dance is typically a little quieter than our Saturday dance, with summertime being less busy than Fall and Winter dances. The upstairs and downstairs are sound-proofed from each to a high degree, though it is impossible to guarantee no sound transfer.
