Welcome to the revived Sugar Swing Newsletter! After a year hiatus, the newsletter's back with a new team - Joanna Farley will be responsible for content while Birkley will continue handling design and layout. Dance Classes
Tap classes are back October 7th!
Fridays at 6:30pm
Orange Hall, 10335 84th Avenue Edmonton
Come learn tap routines and fundamentals that will help you shine on the dance floor. Barbara and Jamie will lead you through 1.5 hour classes divided into two halves each week - 45 min of fundamentals (required) followed by 45min of routine (optional, join in once you feel ready). Sign up for either 4 weeks or the full 8 week series.
Tap shoes are not required, but you can make your own by buying glue-on taps (apparently old pennies on the soles also work). Hard leather or rubber soled shoes work well too.
Registration now online - $4 off if you register by October 5th!

Get out, meet people, and get comfortable with dancing! Jitterbug Swing 1 is our beginner series, offered to those with little to know experience in Lindy Hop. We also have Lindy Hop 2, our intermediate series, for those that want to push forth in dance.

African and Jazz in November
Look forward to our West African class starting November 7 at 6:30pm, Strat Hall. To be confirmed, but we will likely be changing "West African 2B" to "West African (Open)" and introducing "Authentic Jazz (Open)" at 8pm, November 7, Strat Hall!

SFS - Every Saturday!
Sugar Foot Stomp is Sugar Swing's weekly Saturday night dance. The evening begins with a one-hour dance lesson for new dancers, and is followed by 3 hours of dj'd social dancing. The evening begins at 8pm. Cost is $12 for non-members wishing to take a lesson, $10 for non-members, $8 for members or students, and $6 for student-members.

Dance Mosaic
Dance Mosaic, the Thursday evening practice dance, is currently on hiatus while Birkley searches for a permanent inside home. Hopefully they will resume soon!
Autumn Leaves with the Edmonton Swing Band
October 22, 8pm

This is a live band dance featuring the Edmonton Swing Band. Tickets are $15 at the door and can be reserved by calling 780-483-5506.

The Jitterbug Troll attacks again! Toe Tappin' Swing will be hosting an excellent weekend of great dances and lessons featuring Chris and Darla from Seattle, a costumed dance, and a 20's style gala with a live 16-piece big band. Vancouver Jazz Dance Fest
November 18-20
Excellent music and excellent dancers combine for 3 full days of social dancing to some of Vancouver's best Jazz bands. A large group of Edmonton swing dancers are already signed up to attend, and tickets and accommodations are still available. http://vanjazzdancefest.com/

City of Champions Blues
Edmonton now has a Blues dance group, Edmonton City of Blues Champions. The group meets irregularly to host blues dances and attend live blues events. Everyone is welcome, whether you've danced blues before or not. For updates, join the facebook group.

Mad Cat Swing
Mad Cat Swing is a professional performance group headed up by Julie, Birkley, Jason, Krystal, Read, Marissa, Sierra, and Gary. We perform
every month or two, can do up to an hour show, and we're always looking for opportunities to perform at weddings, Christmas parties, birthdays, and whatnot. If you've got connections, consider forwarding on our name!
Private and Group Bookings
Sugar Swing also frequently does instruction for individuals and groups such as weddings, Christmas parties, birthdays, and festivals. This ranges from private lessons for a first dance to a 30min group lesson followed by a couple performances, usually with 1-2 instructors like Birkley, Julie, and other established swing dance instructors in Sugar Swing.

Since the International Lindy Hop Championships happened last month, YouTube has been filling up with videos of the world's best lindy dancers competing. Check out the PatrickandNatasha channel for incredible videos and moves to steal for the next time you're on the dance floor.
